Students feel unprepared for college, survey says

Nearly half of college students surveyed by Greenfield Online, an independent data collection firm, do not think their high school prepared them enough with the organizational skills needed to succeed in college.

The same survey found that 87 percent of students believe their grades would be improved if they were more organized and better able to manage their time.

Cal Poly wrestlers will grapple with each other at 7 p.m. today in Mott Gym at the annual Green and Gold intrasquad scrimmage to determine spots in the Mustangs’ lineup.

“We’re trying to find out who are our top wrestlers in each weight (class),” Cal Poly head coach John Azevedo said.

Lois Capps the victory

Constituents in the House of Representatives’ 23rd District, which includes parts of San Luis Obispo County, re-elected Democrat Lois Capps Tuesday.

“I feel very gratified, first of all that there’s a good turn out at the polls,” Capps said.

Capps defeated Republican Victor Tognazzini with 63 percent of the vote.

Baca leads Poly men's tennis team by example, winning ways

Matt Baca and his doubles partner Kyle Roybal beat two ranked teams, including Stanford’s No. 2-ranked squad, in the men’s semifinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals in October.

Ukrainian journalists visit Cal Poly, local media

The Mustang Daily office received a visit from three Ukrainians in a U.S. legislative exchange program Friday.

The Open World Program was developed to provide Russian and other Eurasians with experiences in American democracy and civil society. Another goal of the program is to promote understanding between the U.

Mustang baseball team's recruiting class ranked No. 20

Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has ranked the Cal Poly baseball team’s recruiting class the 20th best in the nation.

It marks the first time Cal Poly’s recruiting class has been ranked by the newspaper in 24 consecutive years of rankings.

“It just says that we had a good group of athletes coming in to work for us,” Cal Poly head coach Larry Lee said.
