Cross Country
After winning the Big West Conference for the third straight year in 2005, the men’s cross country team is looking for a fourth in 2006.
In order to make room for a new dining establishment, Mustang Express closed its doors for good at the end of June.

Kyle Smith (Baseball)
Smith comes to Cal Poly from Fresno, where he hit .430 with eight home runs and 36 RBI in his final year of high school.

In order to combat late-night double parking issues, the San Luis Obispo Police Department has designated taxi zones throughout the downtown area.
The new taxi zones are a way of ensuring the safety of both nighttime pedestrians and taxi drivers, according to police.
Justin McCutcheon, 19, a San Luis Obispo High School graduate who redshirted on the Cal Poly golf team last fall, died early Aug. 9 after his Volkswagen Jetta collided with a Volvo trailer-truck on a Massachusetts interstate, according to Massachusetts State Police.

As a kickoff to the Sober Summer program, county law enforcement recently announced the purchase of 43 court-admissible breathalyzers.
With the introduction of the Portable Evidential Breath Test Units, law enforcement is anticipating a local 20 percent spike in drunken driving arrests, said Wayne Hansen, administration services officer II for County Drug and Alcohol Services.
