From calculus to concerts, returning to SLO

Cal Poly graduate Michael Kelleher has taken his math degree to a whole new level. After a 10-year-long banking career, Kelleher is now touring the nation with his band Culann’s Hounds.

The group of friends started the band in 2000 after the loss of Kelleher’s first daughter to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Club takes beer to another level

El Corral bookstore is a resource many students use to get their books and other Cal Poly related items, but this week the store will also be displaying something else – beer.

The Brew Crew, an Associated Students Inc. sponsored club, has set up two seven-gallon glass carboys where the beginning stages of the brewing process will take place.

Viewdo: The future of how-to

Have you ever been so frustrated with something and wished there was a tool at your fingertips to help you figure it out? Well, now there is. Viewdo.com is a free site with “how-to” videos for portable devices like iPods and cell phone, and contains everything from how to fit an egg into a milk bottle to the art of beer pong.

iPod, Mac repair made easy

iFixit.com has been around for more than three years helping to supply Macintosh users with parts and free “how to” guides for fixing their computer, but the company has now branched out and offers the same service for iPods as well.

Three years ago, founders Kyle Wiens and Luke Soules started the company while they were living in the dorms at Cal Poly.

Big West hoops has 8 games on FSN, at least 2 on ESPN

The 2006-07 Big West Conference basketball television schedule includes eight games on Fox Sports West and at least two games on ESPN between men’s and women’s games.

On Feb. 17, the Bracket Buster Saturday games will be shown on ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN 360, while UC Irvine will take on UC Riverside on FSN Prime Ticket.

Local residents, students walk to fight AIDS

While many people are unaware of the high ratio of AIDS cases in San Luis Obispo County, the 15th annual “AIDS Walk for Life,” which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Santa Rosa Park, is an effort to raise awareness about AIDS and help raise money for the AIDS Support Network.

Bridge School so hot it smokes

For many students, Homecoming events and a disappointing football game took over their weekend a few weeks back, but for me, I had a different kind of excitement. An excitement that I shared in an amphitheater filled with thousands of people.

The Bradbury Press to plays at UU Hour today

The Bradbury Press, who have been compared to Dave Matthews Band and the Counting Crows, will bring their soulful sounds to UU Hour today at 11 a.m.

ALO to perform at UU Hour

Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO), will bring their California style and soulful grooves to UU Hour today from 11 a.m. to noon.

The four-member band includes Steve Adams on bass and vocals, David Brogan on drums and vocals, Zach Gill on keyboard and vocals and Dan Lebowitz on guitars, percussion and vocals.

Bike rage is all the rage on campus

When I transferred to Cal Poly last fall, one of the first things I said was that I was going to get run over by a bicycle before I graduated. Although it hasn’t happened yet, I still think I am correct.

Now, don’t get clever and purposely try to find me to run me down.
