Have you ever once told someone your greatest fears and, instead of coming to a mutual agreement, the other person simply laughed at you? The things that cripple us with fear – may they be spiders, phantoms, or rejection from a love interest – are often considered as absurd and irrational by others.
The Cup hath runneth over, see you in four years
What did you say about my mom? Honestly, put yourself in Zinedine Zidane shoes, I mean cleats. What would you do? We don’t have exact details on what was said, but you can imagine. “Your mom likes French champagne!” Or something of that nature.
Italian defender Marco Materazzi has denied insulting the French midfielder’s mother, but you can’t trust the Azzuri, anyone familiar with Roberto Baggio’s mullet, or Mussolini knows that.
Lipizzaner stallions gallop into Madonna Expo
Nobody can call the famous Lipizzaner stallions shy. The horses have performed for more than 25 million people all over the world and their next stop is San Luis Obispo.
The Lipizzaner stallions will appear at the Madonna Expo on July 18.
Troy Tinker, master of ceremonies, said that the best part of the show is that anyone can enjoy it, even if they don’t have a background involving horses.

The Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center will play host to the opening night performance of the 36th annual San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival July 14. The show will celebrate the classical pianist’s 250th birthday.

'Pirates 2' should walk the plank
So apparently “Pirates of the Caribbean” is a Disney comedy. Or is it an epic tale about pirates, naturally hidden treasure and nasty creatures that make for good fight scenes? I’m all too confused and mostly disappointed, but at least Johnny Depp is still a great actor.
A Fourth for the family
Central Coast residents convened at Mitchell Park on Tuesday afternoon for the annual Fourth of July festival.
Children raced through obstacle courses, the San Luis Obispo County Band played in the newly constructed gazebo and city officials were subjected to a dunk tank – all in the name of the Fourth of July.
Government donates $1.8 million for tech park
The Economic Development Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, donated $1.8 million to the university to help construct an on-campus technology park – a building expected to house small companies involved in research and development. The park will create projects that are accessible for both students, faculty and companies to collaborate on, said Susan Opava, dean of research and graduate programs.
Fire sweeps across Poly Canyon hill over weekend
A fire burned near Poly Canyon Road on Saturday, spreading across a hill close to campus.
Bill Watton, chief of the University Police Department, received a call at about 9:15 a.m. and headed over to the site. He said that the fire burned three to four acres, but could have been worse had the weather not been particularly cool that day.
SPF: Sunscreen Protects Forever
When I look in the mirror in the morning, I notice the freckles covering my body. To some, they are just marks, but to me, they represent a scary monster: skin cancer.
I used to be naive about skin cancer. I didn’t realize the marks on my body had an unknown secret.
Stop being trashy
San Luis Obispo has turned into a dump within the last month.
Garbage trails away from overflowing dumpsters; disgusting couches are chucked onto the sides of streets; and broken glass bottles in the road make walking more like hop-scotch.
Clean up your trash, Cal Poly!
Instead of tossing your nasty furniture onto the street, take it to the local dump.
There's no sensitivity in baseball!

Tantrums and “open mouth, insert foot” moments are becoming synonymous with baseball. Most of the time it’s Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, but occasionally someone else steps up to the plate.
Although Guillen is in the spotlight for his most recent actions, (calling Chicago Sun-Times reporter Jay Mariotti a “fag” after Mariotti criticized his handling of a young pitcher), he isn’t the founder of rude outbursts and politically incorrectness.
