Five things you need to know about Cal Poly athletics

I’ve been at Cal Poly for two years now and the lack of interest in Cal Poly athletics is astounding to me.

This is a very active campus. There are constantly people jogging, working out at the Recreation Center, hiking up Bishop Peak and so on. Intramural sports are pretty big at Cal Poly as well.

Poly football pursues perfection

His team had just dismantled Division II Fort Lewis 44-0 in its season opener.

But Cal Poly football head coach Rich Ellerson made it clear there is always room for improvement after the lopsided home win Sept. 2 in front of 5,857 fans at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

New rodeo coach has hands-on approach

A new face has joined the Cal Poly rodeo team: Tony Branquinho. He has accepted the position of rodeo coach and will replace Frank Mello, who finished his tenure in June.

Mello will stay on as a rodeo consultant to help Branquinho, 31, make a smooth transition into the program.

Band's ties to athletics significant

Since he joined the Mustang Marching Band as a freshman in the fall of 2004, Cal Poly music junior Steven Becraft has played at dozens of home football and basketball games.

He has fond memories of each of them.

“Out of all the games I’ve already played at, I wouldn’t take back a single one,” said Becraft, who is the section leader for bassoons in the school’s wind ensemble.

New lala.com encourages legal music sharing

Music listeners have been trading favorite songs and albums since before the vinyl record, but with the growing popularity of downloading and online CD stores, the communication between music fans has been lost.

Lala.com is trying to change that.

As the newest addition to the Internet music community, the CD-trading Web site encourages communication between users and is completely legal, cheap and easy to use.

From agriculture to architecture: a look at Cal Poly's seven colleges

The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, formerly the College of Agriculture, is the fourth largest undergraduate agriculture program in the nation. The college includes over 3,500 students in 18 majors, and awards 650 baccalaureate degrees each year, launching students into the No.

Student-run radio station plans to move on up

This year, Cal Poly’s radio station, KCPR 91.3 FM, will upgrade its studio and expand its coverage area. The station, which began broadcasting in 1968, is one of the only nonprofit college radio stations and is completely run by student volunteers.

The current studio is located on the second floor of building 26 and will be moved to the third floor next to the CPTV room.

Rancer's Recipes – Not-So-Common Ramen Salad

Just because you’re a new student doesn’t mean you have to be confined to boxes of Easy Mac and expired bags of popcorn. A spin of creativity can turn any typical dorm room snack into a tasty (and quick) bite to eat.

Not-So-Common Ramen Salad
1 package Top Ramen (your favorite!)
 4 cups spinach leaves, torn
3/4 cups cooked and diced chicken (found in grocery store’s deli section)
 1/2 cup grapes, halved
1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
1/4 cup canned mandarin oranges, drained
?1/4 red onion, sliced thinly
?1/4 cup bottled vinaigrette dressing

Cook noodles according to package directions, but do not add flavor packets.

Veg out with Cal Poly's many vegetarian options

In order to aid practicing vegetarians in their hunt for the perfect meat-free meal, the Mustang Daily has accumulated a list of the best places and plates to get.
