The No. 20-ranked Cal Poly volleyball team snapped UC Santa Barbara’s 16-match home winning streak Saturday evening at the Thunderdome, claiming the Big West Conference opener for both clubs 30-15, 26-30, 32-30, 30-16. With the win Cal Poly inproved to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Jackass 2 hilariously stupid

Somewhere through the middle of this film, I wondered if I should make an emergency dash to the restroom in the theater lobby or just outright barf into my popcorn bucket. Heck, the guy three seats over from me did it, so why should I feel embarrassed to follow suit?

Then I thought to myself: never mind the feeling of embarrassmen that is about to shower out of my esophagus; the feeling of embarrassment for sitting through this unbelievable display of “stupid human tricks” that is “Jackass: Number Two” is overwhelming enough.

'The Black Dahlia'; stylish but incoherent

I wish I could have been at the premiere of “The Black Dahlia.” Not to have reveled in its entrance into Hollywood, but rather to have seen director Brian De Palma’s exuberant grin at the end of the film contrasting the audience’s look of confusion, anger and embarrassment.

ITS makes wireless Internet access easier

The Information Technology Service Department is making changes to the way students using laptops can access the Internet on campus for the fall quarter.

Since Sept. 9, Cal Poly students have been able to easily access wireless networks throughout campus for the first time without having to register laptops through the ITS office.

Confessions of a procrastinator

I have this itch under my skin that I can’t scratch, and it’s only getting worse now that fall quarter is here. What the hell is this nuisance that’s making me feel like I’ve got a million ants dancing all over my skin and has my heart beating so fast it could out-rev a sports car?

I’ll call it “quarteritis.

President Warren Baker: The man, the myth, the legend

Perched up in his office on the fourth floor of the Administration building, Cal Poly President Warren Baker’s view overlooks much of the campus. As students bustle through their day-by-day activities, here is the man at the heart of the institution. But after 28 years of overseeing every sect of the university, his life now extends well beyond the fourth floor and he took the time to speak with the Mustang Daily about what it’s like to be in his shoes.

Mullets still out; rest of '80s back in

You can feel it on your back and wrapping itself around your ankle. You don’t know how it got here, but now you see it everywhere. Yes, ’80s fashion is back and bigger (and less neon) than ever!

Get ready to show off your legs because flare is out and skinny is in.

Men's fashion don'ts are dos this fall

The fall season is right over the horizon and for many Cal Poly students, it is an opportunity to make a new impression on new peers.

Whether we acknowledge it or not, we constantly find some way to reinvigorate the way we want to be perceived. This could include the purchase of a sick new ride, a funky hairstyle, a tattoo, a piercing, or for those that stress the importance of attire, a standout, even outlandish, getup.

Downtown SLO gets 'chained'

Downtown San Luis Obispo has seen a chain reaction in the past year. Well, a chain store reaction, that is.

In the past 12 months or so, the downtown area has seen about 15 new stores open, eight of which have been part of a chain. These include U.S. shopping mall favorites like Abercrombie & Fitch, California Pizza Kitchen, Talbots, Pottery Barn and more.

Car congestion causes concern on campus

This fall, the University Police Department won’t offer much new relief for students looking to park on campus.

“The situation this year is good and bad; good in that the same spaces will be available as when students left, but there won’t be any big improvements awaiting them,” said UPD Associate Director Cindy Campbell.
