It was a dark and stormy night with no lights in sight

Who’s afraid of the dark? The once popular Snick TV show telling scary nighttime tales has become more of a reality for Cal Poly students who have to venture through the dark streets in and around campus after the sun goes down.

The lack of lighting on campus and in San Luis Obispo is a safety concern that has gone unaddressed for too long.

Frankly Speaking

Just your average trip to a Cal Poly football game – or was it?

This story has all the makings of the greatest tale ever told – a boy’s dreams come crashing down, but some quick thinking and a wacky plan add some comic relief before the boy conquers an arch-enemy and becomes a man.

UC Davis ticket plan set

Due to the outstanding student response at last weekend’s football game, Cal Poly Athletics will hold for students 1,000 more general admission tickets for Saturday’s Great West Football Conference game against UC Davis.

Kickoff on Mustang Memorial Field at Alex G.

Carlos Mencia speaks his mind to students

Shuffling feet, lulled voices and nervous laughter filled the Rec Center Sunday night as everyone waited for the show to start. One of the country’s most controversial comedians, Carlos Mencia was about to stand in front of the audience and prove that he did have the ability to make any kind of person laugh.

Renewable energy shines on Cal Poly

Cal Poly recently installed 1,000 solar panels on top of the Engineering West building that will save the university $5,000 per year in electricity costs.

The 14,000 square-foot system, the largest in San Luis Obispo County, will power 25 percent of the building, which was chosen for its flat roof and good sun exposure.

Anti-Arnold campaign tries to involve CSU students

Many people say that Arnold Schwarzenegger has failed his duty to the CSU system – keeping tuition low. Around this time of election year, TV channels start showing advertisements for or against the current governor. What if students got a chance to put one out? What if students were allowed to speak out to millions of people? With the Flunk Arnold contest they can.

Involvement makes college experience worthwhile

Two words, that’s it: get involved. That’s all it takes to transform your experience at Cal Poly from awesome and life-changing (which it will be because, after all, we are at Cal Poly) to the biggest growing experience of your life.

Some people have been involved their whole lives at their elementary, middle, and high schools.

Emotional weekend lifts Mustangs

As soon as the Cal Poly football team’s Hall of Fame Game win Saturday over Southern Utah was over, Kenny Chicoine held up a small, white banner with Sharpie ink all over it.

The banner simply read, “1960.”

Displaying the banner to a jovial crowd celebrating the Mustangs’ 18-14 comeback win, Chicoine was paying homage in his own way to the 1960 Cal Poly football team, which had 16 players, a team manager and a team booster killed in a plane crash Oct.

The Wild Pitch

A tribute to Division I-AA football took place in front of 8,168 spectators Saturday night at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

It wasn’t the great home crowd with roaring student sections, the gorgeous Mustang Memorial Field or even the moving ceremony at halftime.

The convenient future of the Internet

I moved into my new apartment two weeks ago and before I could get my keys, I had a Charter employee whispering words like “400 channels” and “High-speed Internet” into my ear. Being the entertainment addict that I am, I slapped a twenty in the man’s hand and had cable television and Internet installed in five minutes.

Mustangs rally to win thriller, 18-14

With just under 13 minutes left in Saturday night’s Hall of Fame Game, the Cal Poly football team trailed Southern Utah 14-3 and appeared headed for a second straight loss.

Four turnovers and two Matt Brennan touchdown bombs later, the Mustangs somehow wound up 18-14 winners in front of 8,168 fans in the Great West Football Conference opener at Alex G.
