Student's funeral to take place this week

A funeral for deceased student Edgar Viernes will take place tomorrow in Santa Clarita.

Viernes, an electrical engineering junior, died in a car accident of which he was the passenger on Oct. 12 when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a dog on Foothill Boulevard.

Cross country teams sprint to championships

The Cal Poly men’s and women’s cross country teams will have a distinct advantage at Saturday’s Big West Cross Country Championships.

The meet will be held at Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course near Cuesta College at 10 a.m.

Mark Conover, the head coach of both teams, appreciates the benefit of having the meet so close to campus.

Softball team bulks up its schedule

The Cal Poly softball team has been skipped over for the College World Series the past couple of years from what many critics considered a weak schedule.

But head coach Jenny Condon is determined to come back strong this year. “We have an even tougher schedule this year.we’re excited to see how we play,” Condon said.

Storm drains installed around campus as reminder

Markers have recently been set up adjacent to Cal Poly’s storm drains to remind people that whatever goes down the channels ends up in San Luis Creek.
