Injuries, shooting spell doom for men's basketball

The Cal Poly men’s basketball team lost its third-straight Big West Conference game Saturday, falling 62-58 at UC Riverside.

It amounted to just the second conference win of the year for the hosting Highlanders (5-15, 2-7 Big West), who prevailed despite shooting just 38 percent from the floor and compiling 17 turnovers.

Local author Sue McKee spins a tale of the heart

When guests enter her house, Susan McKee politely asks them to take off their shoes before stepping inside. It’s a habit she learned in China, and one she still likes to keep, along with hanging Oriental watercolors on the wall behind her.

As two “60-somethings,” McKee and her husband Robert decided nine years ago to embark on the kind of adventure that many half their age aren’t bold enough to do.

Even though the back-to-back, reigning Big West Tournament champion Highlanders (7-11, 5-2 Big West) are without senior center Kemie Nkele, the 2006-07 Big West Player of the Year, their stingy defense could lead them to another successful postseason run.

Spider-Man gets caught in web of ill intent

“What would you do if you only had one more day?” read the front cover of “The Amazing Spider-Man” No. 544, the first of a four-part storyline that revamped the superhero’s life.

A poor free-throw percentage has plagued the Cal Poly men’s basketball team this season, but on Monday night, the Mustangs shot 92.9 percent from the line (26 of 28) en route to a 69-64 victory over Pacific.

In his fourth starting role at Cal Poly, sophomore guard Lorenzo Keeler dropped 15 points to lead the Mustangs to just their second win in 20 games at the Alex G.
