Although Cal Poly was one of seven sites considered to host five high school football state championship games in December, the California Interscholastic Federation announced Wednesday a two-year deal keeping the games at the Home Depot Center in Carson, where they were played the past two years.

A musical resurrection

The fact that you are reading this is a minor miracle. You see, this “new” record from the Raveonettes, “Lust Lust Lust,” actually came out more than two months ago, and the album preceding it, “Pretty in Black,” was as trite and redundant an affair as Columbia ever put out, the musical equivalent of a Tim Allen movie.

Women's golf team finishes fourth

In matching its best-ever performance at the Big West Conference Championships, the Cal Poly women’s golf team finished fourth amongst six teams Tuesday at the Tijeras Creek Golf Course in Mission Viejo.

The Mustangs, who also came in fourth in 2001 and 2006, shot a four-person 319 total in the final round to finish with a 77-over-par 941 total.

Softball: Cahn shuts out Matadors

All Anna Cahn had to do Sunday was remain patient. Cahn, a freshman left-hander for the Cal Poly softball team, got all of her run support in the sixth inning of a 5-0, series-clinching win over Cal State Northridge at Bob Janssen Field. In her first collegiate shutout, Cahn (6-11) struck out five and scattered four hits in a complete game.

Fischback lifts Poly to series win in Davis

On the strength of a complete-game seven-hitter by sophomore right-hander Steven Fischback, the Cal Poly baseball team edged UC Davis 4-2 at Dobbins Stadium on Sunday to take the Big West Conference series 2-1.

In his first complete outing at the collegiate level, Fischback (4-3) struck out three and walked just one, as 67 of his 107 pitches were strikes.

10 ways to have fun on campus

At first glance, it might seem that every Cal Poly student on campus is either studying or walking to class. But that does not mean the only thing to do on campus is homework . far from it.

From simply hanging out on Dexter Lawn to climbing the rock wall, Cal Poly offers plenty of activities right on campus for students to enjoy.

Springing ahead to the fall

While baseball, softball, golf, tennis and track and field wind down their spring seasons at Cal Poly, it can’t hurt to take a look ahead to the fall and winter sports on the horizon.

Football

A year after finishing with the second most productive offense in the entire Football Championship Subdivision, 10 Mustangs starters return on that side of the ball in 2008, and by the looks of their schedule, they’ll need every one of them.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Totally unforgettable

You’ve gotta hand it to a guy who’s willing to bare it all (um . quite literally) on the big screen in, like, the first five minutes of a movie. This move can, after all, either make or break a film (is America really ready for full-frontal male nudity?).

Poly dominates, wins third match in a row

No singles matches went beyond two sets as the Cal Poly women’s tennis team dominated Cal State Bakersfield 7-0 at Mustang Courts on Wednesday.

Amy Markhoff and Diane Filip slid to the No. 2 doubles spot and stayed unbeaten by routing Sara Mijwel and Ashlee Thorneycroft 8-1.
