Cal Poly kicking spot open for competition

Because of potential effects of Hurricane Ike on Lake Charles, La., Cal Poly’s football game there Saturday night against McNeese State was canceled by school officials Thursday morning.

Getting in the Delta Spirit: San Diego band coming to SLO

Just days after gracing a San Luis Obispo stage, San Diego rock-and-soul band Delta Spirit will make its TV debut on the Late Night with Conan O’Brien stage on Sept. 3.

Incoming basketball player to face bank robbery charges

An 18-year-old Minnesotan on the Cal Poly men’s basketball roster will face two felony charges stemming from his alleged involvement in a Wisconsin bank robbery Saturday morning, authorities said Wednesday.

Poly grad brings home gold

BEIJING – Cal Poly graduate Stephanie Brown Trafton won the gold medal in the women’s discus Monday night at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and became the first gold medalist from Cal Poly after posting a mark of 212 feet, 5 inches.

“Someone told me that I was coming to the Bird’s Nest to lay a golden egg,” she told reporters.
