Field leads the way for Cal Poly offense

If you thought your life was hectic, try living Stephen Field’s.

The agricultural business senior, who is nearing the end of his time at Cal Poly, was recently married and coaches throwing for the track and field team at Arroyo Grande High, his alma mater.

Mustangs to run at national championships again

The Cal Poly men’s cross country team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the third straight year for the NCAA Championships after receiving an at-large bid Sunday.

“We’re relieved and excited to get to go back,” said Mustangs head coach Mark Conover, who has taken the team to the national meet six out of the last nine years.

Is txting the NME? (Is texting the enemy?)

A distinctive beep signaled that she had just received a text message. With a quick flick of the wrist, Megan Nitz flipped open her phone and read the message displayed on the screen. With the instinct of an animal, she began a high-speed thumb choreography, fingers bouncing off the buttons like hot oil in a pan.

Washington doesn't have the right to bankroll Detroit

Looks like another crisis is ripe for the political harvest. Last month it was the banks that needed Uncle Sam. This time it’s Detroit automakers. Diversity is more than ethnicity I think we can all agree that the incident at the crops house was unfortunate, but is anyone else getting tired of the suddenly overblown emphasis on diversity? Don’t get me wrong, I believe that skin color has absolutely no relation to a person’s individual value or qualifications to attend Cal Poly.

Climate futurism: four scenarios

Climate foresight is a valuable strategy, both for helping direct our efforts toward coping with climate change and for helping us fully grasp the seriousness of the crisis. Although we won’t know the future until it arrives, climate futurism takes an educated guess at what the planet and society might look like decades from now, and helps us anticipate the end results of our choices today.

We can’t just “move on” when discrimination still exists Cynthia Kona, do you realize the hypocrisy in your letter to the editor “Forgive each other and move on” on Nov. 12? I don’t even feel the need to get into my own liberal viewpoints on Prop 8 and the crops house incident; I just want to address the dysfunction and appalling “points” you made.

Student veterans serve their country, Cal Poly

Like a soldier’s camouflage in dense undergrowth, they are hard to spot among their student peers. With only a handful studying here, they’re easy to overlook on campus.

As of fall 2008, the Office of Academic Records reported 51 students who were or are still active in the armed forces and collecting veteran educational benefits such as the G.
