Cal Poly women's water polo team heads to nationals

The Cal Poly women’s water polo club team is heading to Portland, Ore. Thursday to compete in the national championship tournament. The Mustangs have won three national titles in the past five years and are looking to claim another one.

They recently defeated UCLA to win the Pacific Coast Championship at UC San Diego and have played teams from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, including USC and Pepperdine.

A vital asset to the Cal Poly women’s golf team, Stephanie Yocum was named the Big West Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month in February.

The communications sophomore, who has been playing for eight years, was raised in what she calls a “golf family.” Her dad is an avid golfer, and she inevitably became interested in the game when her older sister started playing.

Examining the artistry of jazz

Attempting to “examine jazz as an art form,” the San Luis Obispo City/County Library will host a program called “Looking at Jazz” Tuesday evenings from April 8 to May 13. Each of the program’s six two-hour classes from 6 to 8 p.m. will feature a film during the first hour and a discussion during the second hour.

Man fires gun at his girlfriend in Pismo

A Bakersfield man was arrested on April 4 around 9 p.m. at The Cliffs Resort in Pismo Beach for the attempted murder of his
