Budget cuts stop testing of six local beaches

State budget cuts have put a stop to water testing for bacteria at six local beaches in San Luis Obispo County. As of Oct. 23, San Luis Obispo County’s Environmental Health Services will no longer sample sites north of Pier Avenue and south of Strand Avenue at Pismo Beach.

The Cal Poly men’s basketball team was tabbed to finish sixth by Big West Conference coaches and eighth in a media poll at the Big West media day in Irvine on Wednesday.

Both polls selected Cal State Northridge to win the conference, with UC Santa Barbara as the runner-up in each.
