Cal Poly surf team continues to improve

At the close of the 2008 season, the Cal Poly surf team has continued to improve upon the foundation that was laid by the club’s resurrection last year.

The club finished in the top 10 in the California division, and looks to improve upon that standing in national competition later this month.

Renowned jazz artist to play with Jazz Band

The Cal Poly Jazz Band will feature renowned jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti at its Jazz Night’s concert tonight, where he will perform with both the Cal Poly University Jazz Band No. 1 as well as the Cal Poly Jazz Combo. The quartet’s style of progressive jazz has been loosely defined as a combination of funk, R&B, and classic rock, which is discernable from the wide range of musical influences that the quartet draws its inspiration from.

CSU Alliance protests proposed budget cuts

The Alliance For The CSU held a phone and fax marathon during UU hour Thursday, protesting a $386 million cut in funding to the CSU system scheduled to be included in the governor’s “May Revise” 2008-09 state budget.

“Any money that gets put into the CSU system comes back four-fold, after about a five-year turnaround,” said Rich Saenz, chair of the physics department and president of the Cal Poly branch of the California Faculty Association (CFA).

The Central Coast Association of Wakeboarders hosts its second annual GraduWAKEtion tournament this weekend, a refreshing option for sports enthusiasts who don’t want to ditch mom on Mother’s Day.

The event will feature an intercollegiate wakeboarding competition, vendor booths and a tri-tip barbeque, among other festivities.
