Ryan ChartrandCal Poly’s Japanese Cultural Exchange will present “Tribute,” a groundbreaking Japanese animation and video game concert on Saturday, April 29. “Tribute” will feature original arrangements of popular melodies drawn entirely from Japanese animation and video games, performed as piano, vocal, and ensemble pieces. “Tribute” will appeal to both fans familiar with the music as well as those who have never watched anime or played video games.
With nearly fifty performers from Cal Poly State University, Cuesta College, and the San Luis Obispo community, the “Tribute” program will consist of music from such poplar anime titles as “Cowboy Bebop,” “Macross Plus” and “Noir,” as well as music from video game titles such as “Super Mario Bros.,” “The Legend of Zelda,” and the “Final Fantasy” series.
Drawing upon such diverse musical styles as jazz, classical, rock and folk, video game and anime music is quickly becoming a unique musical genre unto itself, featuring music from such internationally acclaimed composers as Nobuo Uematsu, Yoko Kanno, and Koji Kondo.
Tickets are on sale now at the Performing Arts Center Box Office and range from $12 to $22 with student discounts available. Tickets will also be available from the PAC Box Office beginning one hour before the performance.
