Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is leading a toiletry drive to help people in Northern California affected by recent wildfires.
The toiletry drive will last until Friday, Oct. 13 and items can be dropped off at the ASI Student Government office on the second floor of the Julian A. McPhee University Union in Room 202. Useful donations include soap, shampoo, Band-Aids, toothbrushes, dust masks, razors, feminine hygiene products, diapers, baby wipes and baby formula.
More than 298 square miles have burned across California in a deadly series of wildfires, most notably affecting Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino counties. As of Oct. 12, the death toll in Northern California has risen to 24 and hundreds have gone missing.
Many members of the Cal Poly community have already been affected by the fires. In a campuswide email, President Jeffrey Armstrong extended sympathies to those affected.
“Many of our students, faculty, staff and their families have been affected by this tragedy. Please know that as a campus community, we support you in this difficult time,” Armstrong wrote in the email.
In his email, Armstrong also encouraged any students affected to reach out to the Dean of Students Office directly at 805-756-2472 and Counseling Services at 805-756-2511 for direct assistance related to the wildfires. Counseling Services takes scheduled and walk-in appointments.
