The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Board of Directors passed a resolution at Wednesday night’s meeting against mandatory on-campus housing for second-year students, a concept administrators such as Vice President for Student Affairs Keith Humphrey have previously showed support toward.
The resolution failed to pass the first time around on a voice vote but passed after more discussion by Board of Directors members. College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences representative Jana Colombini, among others, urged her colleagues to vote in favor of the resolution.
“I would like to encourage this Board to take advantage of this opportunity we have to tell administration how we really feel,” Colombini said. “We did not appreciate the way how mandatory Soar and WOW (were) approached to us, and this is our opportunity to stand up for what we believe in.”
The resolution will not inherently force any actions or rule changes; it is only meant to convey ASI’s displeasure with on-campus housing to administrators.
