Art After Dark’s latest event is Open Keyboard, an outreach event where attendees can listen to the intricate sounds of the Forbes Pipe Organ in the Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Feb. 7 from 6-9 p.m.
Almost no one has access to the instrument — which stands three stories tall and consists of more than 2,000 pipes — and Open Keyboard is a wonderful opportunity to hear a unique sound, PAC Outreach Services Specialist Melody Klemin said.
Attendees are encouraged to sign up to play the organ at the event and let their music resonate throughout the state-of-the-art auditorium. For those unfamiliar with the complex instrument, Cal Poly University Organist Paul Woodring will assist musicians prior to each mini-performance.
A photography exhibit featuring the work of Bert and Bryn Forbes will be displayed in the Rossi Grand Lobby of the PAC.
Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the event. A complimentary shuttle service will also be available, running from the PAC to downtown San Luis Obispo.
“We look forward to providing more opportunities for Cal Poly students in particular, and have them come into our building and feel like the PAC is part of their college experience,” Klemin said.
The event is free and open to the public.
