You knew it was going to happen. A quirky offense from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) visiting a Big Ten Conference power, in front of upwards of 75,000 people?
Naturally, people are already comparing Saturday’s Cal Poly-Wisconsin game to last year’s Appalachian State-Michigan meeting.
If the Mustangs could pull off the upset, it’s unlikely it’d be perceived in quite the same way, not only because such a feat wouldn’t have as much shock value the second time around, but because Michigan was No. 5 entering last season, while the Badgers just got bowl eligible at 6-5.
And it seems as Wisconsin has started to focus on the game, it’s beginning to treat Cal Poly with a little more respect.
Badgers defensive tackle Mike Newkirk even told BadgerBeat.com that the Mustangs’ triple option was unlike anything they’d ever seen before.
Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema told the Associated Press much the same thing.
