Update 4:08 p.m.
The Dean of Students told greek leaders in an email late Tuesday afternoon that they were given a “grace period” to finish hammering out the details on a new party registration policy, and that Cal Poly greek chapters were never on probation.
Both Interfraternity President Dominic Hjerpe and Panehellenic President Danielle Durante said they believed that their organizations were placed on probation after missing a Monday deadline to agree on the policy.
DeCosta did not return multiple phone messages left Tuesday.
According to the email, the new deadline to finish the policy is Friday, and Durante said she is optimistic an agreement will be reached by the weekend.
“There’s no bad blood between us and the administration,” Durante said.

All fraternities and sororities, including Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Council and United Sorority and Fraternity Council (USFC) organizations, are on social probation after failing to agree with administrators on a party registration policy, IFC president Domenic Hjerpe said late Monday.
“All of greek life is on social probation because campus and greek life have not been able to agree on a party registration policy, and the party registration policy was part of the deferred recruitment compromise,” Hjerpe, a business administration junior, said.
All three councils, not only IFC, disagree with the current proposed registration policy, he said. There are “various aspects” of the policy that need to be worked out with administrators, though Hjerpe declined to go into specifics.
Hjerpe, Panhellenic president Danielle Durante, USFC president Edward Yanez, greek coordinator Kathryn O’Hagan, and Dean of Students Jean DeCosta will meet Tuesday morning to address the issue, Hjerpe said.
“The group will be going line by line over the current proposed policy so that hopefully all IFC, Panhellenic, USFC and campus can come to an agreement upon the policy, and we can forward them off to our respective chapter presidents so that they can review the policy and vote on whether or not they think it should be installed or not,” Hjerpe said.
