Campus administrators are discussing selling KCPR’s radio license, according to an article by Cal Coast News.
The information comes from a series of emails between administrators, obtained by Cal Coast News via the California Public Records Act.
“I am beginning to believe that we should sell the radio license,” College of Liberal Arts Dean Douglas Epperson wrote in an email sent May 19.
Discussion about the station’s future follows a fundraiser hosted by two of the station’s student DJs, who offered explicit Snapchats in return for cash donations.
When asked for comment about the future of the station, university spokesperson Matt Lazier remarked on the importance of KCPR, but declined to comment further.
“KCPR has long been and continues to be an important hands-on learning experience for many Cal Poly students from a variety of academic programs,” Lazier said in a written statement. “As with all of our programs, we are always evaluating how we can optimize the educational aspects of the station.”
