From concerts to runs for charity, mark your calendars for an assortment of events happening on campus this quarter.
Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Events
ASI has 20 events on the calendar for spring quarter that will all be free to students.
Music at the Market (contract pending)
April 3, 5-7 p.m.
On the first Thursday back from spring break, ASI has planned a country concert to play outside Campus Market, though the artist has yet to be confirmed.
Comedian (contract pending)
April 19, 8-10 p.m.
A comedian is scheduled, but not yet confirmed, for Tuesday, April 19 and will perform at the Multi-Activity Center (MAC).
Concert in the Plaza (contract pending)
April 24, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
ASI has planned a hip-hop concert in the Julian A. McPhee University Union (UU) Plaza, though the performer has yet to be confirmed.
Late-Night Silent Disco
May 2, 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.
During the Silent Disco event, all participants plug in their headphones, listen to the same music and dance.
The only catch — everything is silent outside of the headphones.
“It’s a new concept, but it’s really popular on some of the other campuses where we’ve checked it out,” ASI events director Missi Bullock said. “KCPR kind of helped us find that idea. We’re going to do it in the UU Plaza, so I don’t know if there will be more people watching or participating.”
Concert in the Plaza featuring Louder Space, Sundae Social and Tie-Dye
May 8, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The student band Louder Space will perform in the UU Plaza. During that time, there also will be ice cream sundaes and an opportunity to partake in tie-dying, Bullock said.
Mustang Mile
May 14, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The third annual Mustang Mile 5K run will be held in the Recreation Center Plaza and on Mustang Way.
Established three years ago with Aware Awake Alive and the Starkey Family in honor of their son, Carson, a Cal Poly student who died in 2008 after a fraternity hazing incident, the Mustang Mile is an event aimed to spread the message of alcohol awareness, Bullock said.
“It’s a 5K that you walk or run,” Bullock said. “After the 5K, there’s some booth participants — some of the clubs on campus, like Aware Awake Alive and Friday Night Live. New Student Programs is really involved in getting people on board to do the 5K. It’s a large campus event, so after the 5K, there’s also free food – free Woodstock’s pizza and ice cream. It’s free to students.”
“People dress up in costumes to run the 5K, and there’s a band in the middle of the route; though we’re not sure what band yet, but it will probably be something along the lines of a student band,” Bullock said.
The 5K has a $15 registration fee, which includes a T-shirt.

Rock of Ages
April 16, 7:50 p.m.
This musical features a list of classic ’80s songs, including the musical stylings of Journey, Pat Benatar and REO Speedwagon, among others.
The show will be performed at the PAC and will be approximately two hours long. It is intended for an audience of ages 13 and up.
Tickets can be purchased online.
Spring Dance Show
May 22 and 23, 8 p.m.
Illuminate, the 2014 Spring Dance Show, will feature 200 dancers in 20 student-choreographed pieces and will be approximately two hours in length.
Psychology junior Lauren Creger is a student director of the show.
“Each student comes from a different dance background, so it’s very diverse,” Creger said. “We have one cultural piece, all different styles of hip-hop, contemporary, lyrical, some jazz, some theatre, some tap, some point … it’s a wide array.”
Tickets can be purchased from the ticketing office at the PAC or online.
