Two presidential candidates were recently fined by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) for “non-verbal” confirmation of their candidacy before April 13, which violates election code. This incident has brought up constitutionality debates and driven denunciation of Mustang News’ coverage of the fines.
2. Mechanical engineering department aims for self-funded labs
Mechanical engineering department chair Andrew Davol intends to employ an “earn by doing” method to help labs fund themselves by creating a public-private partnership with engineering companies.
3. Greek life hits problems with party registration policy
Tensions rise as greek life members face unanticipated difficulties with the newly passed party registration policy. “It’s really a pain in the ass,” Delta Chi President and civil engineering senior Gannon De Petris said.
4. College of Business dean candidate speaks on campus
Orfalea College of Business dean candidate Richard Mathieu, currently the associate dean for Academic Affairs at James Madison University’s business college, spoke at an open forum on campus Tuesday. Mathieu said he was attracted to Cal Poly’s experimental learning and engagement model. “I really saw value that could be added for students through engagement with industry,” he said.
5. Men’s hoops takes on rival UCSB in season finale
The season is finally coming to a close for the men’s basketball team, as they will be facing rival UC Santa Barbara on Saturday in Mott Athletics Center with a chance to sweep the season series.
