In addition to the 11 hip-hop acts Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is considering for a spring concert according to a document obtained by Mustang News, ASI is also looking into other genres.
The list of potential hip-hop acts includes Atmosphere, Hoodie Allen, Chance The Rapper, Mike Posner, MGK, Fabolous, K’Naan, Sammy Adams, Theophilus London, Shaggy and Timeflies.
“We know that is a genre that really interests students on campus,” ASI events director Missi Bullock said. “A lot of our sunset concerts have ended up being hip-hop.”
Bullock said the list was generated to garner student opinion.
As of now, a Mustang News poll based on this hip-hop list has Atmosphere in the lead with 458 votes, above Chance The Rapper who has 374.
Atmosphere is also at the top of ASI’s list, Bullock said.
But ASI looking into these performers doesn’t mean we’ll see them at Cal Poly — the performers’ availability and the overall cost also comes into play.
In an Oct. 2013 Mustang News article, Bullock said the cost of booking bands such as Macklemore and Green Day would nearly reach $100,000, with the show’s total cost nearly depleting ASI’s budget for events.
While hip-hop is not the confirmed genre for the spring concert, people have already made their voices heard via social media.
