National Engineers Week (eWeek), which is celebrated nationally each year, is making its way to Cal Poly with a week full of events from Feb. 17-21.
For Cal Poly, it’s a way for other engineers to celebrate engineering, Engineering Student Council President and mechanical engineering junior Robert Potter said.
The week-long festivities are put on by the Engineering Student Council, but clubs within the College of Engineering can host events and be part of the Club Fair, Potter said.
Events for eWeek change every year. This year’s festivities include the Club Fair sponsored by Apple, a Cisco Tech Demo and a Casino Night sponsored by Solar Turbines.
Computer engineering junior and Engineering Student Council Vice President of Events Gilenn Collado said they’re trying to find events that would appeal to a lot of people, including freshmen.
“We have a BBQ just for the freshmen, but it’s open to everyone,” she said. “We wanted to get the freshmen involved and (let them) get to know the Engineering Student Council.”
Though the events are geared toward engineers, all majors are welcome to attend.
Prizes will be up for grabs, including a 32” LED HD TV, iPad Air and gift cards. Food will also be available at some of the week’s events.
“We’re excited about what’s coming this year,” Potter said.
