With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, some students stopped by the Craft Center to make something special for their loved ones. The free event was hosted by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Events and the Craft Center.
Graphic communication senior Keifer Hickney said she had a short break between classes and decided to check out the event.
“I made a nice plain French vanilla candle for my mom,” Hickney said.
“Today we’re doing some candle making activities for Valentine’s Day, so people can make scented candles for their friends or boyfriends or girlfriends, “ Craft Center instructor Cameron Johnson said.
ASI Events estimated approximately 100 students came by to make candles.
“It’s fun; crafts are really fun and it’s free, so why not?” Johnson said. “You can walk by and poke your head in see what we’re doing. A lot of people come in to do the other crafts and just see that we’re doing the candle-making.”
Live music performed by a student accompanied the candle crafting.
“The music is great,” Hickney said. “There’s tons of people here today, which is great.”
Wednesday’s event is one of a series of free events ASI and the Craft Center host throughout the year.
“I think it’s awesome that they’re doing free events,” Hickney said. “It’s raising awareness about the Craft Center and all the things they can do here.”
The next free event at the Craft Center is cookie decorating on March 6.
