The Cal Poly women’s basketball team cruised to a win on Thursday night with a 81-72 victory at UC Davis.
Senior Molly Schlemer led the team with 26 points on 12 of 16 shooting and added nine rebounds. As a team, the Mustangs shot 54 percent from the field, while UC Davis shot 43 percent.
With the win, the conference-leading Mustangs improved to 12-8 overall and 6-1 in Big West play. The Aggies fell to 8-11 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Mustangs out-rebounded UC Davis 34-26 and outscored the Aggies’ bench 22-11. Junior Kristen Ale played a major scoring role off the bench for Cal Poly, as she contributed 18 points on 3 of 5 shooting from 3-point land.
Forward Alyson Doherty led UC Davis in scoring with 20 points. Sydney Fipps also contributed 15 points for the Aggies.
Cal Poly never trailed by more than six points in the first half and ended the period with a 43-35 lead.
The Mustangs capitalized off 18 Aggie turnovers for 26 points, whereas the Aggies only mustered 15 points off 19 turnovers.
This Saturday, the Mustangs will travel to UC Irvine to square off in another Big West Conference matchup. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
