Cal Poly ended its search for a head football coach Friday by hiring Tim Walsh, (ironically) the former offensive coordinator at Army. Prior to his brief stint in West Point, Walsh was the head coach at Portland State.
Interestingly, because of the unusual nature of what appears to be a trade of coaches, athletic director Alison Cone said she almost didn’t return Walsh’s phone call (which he barely even made in the first place for the same reason).
You can watch the introductory news conference in WMV format here.
Former head coach Rich Ellerson is officially taking five Cal Poly assistants to West Point. The only remaining assistants still listed in the Cal Poly staff directory are secondary coach Johnny Burnett and linebackers coach Mel Kaufman.
While we wait to see how Walsh fills out his staff and recruits, what do you think of him? Respond here or vote in the poll to the right.
