Cal Poly men’s soccer head coach Paul Holocher has sharply criticized the unruly behavior at Alex G. Spanos Stadium during Friday night’s 1-0 loss to UC Santa Barbara.
He has reason to. Several bottles were thrown onto the field from the south bleachers, stopping play for several minutes before UCSB scored the game-winner moments after it resumed, racing through a clearly jarred, interrupted Mustangs defense.
At Cal Poly’s weekly athletics news conference Monday, Holocher mentioned tortilla throwing as an example of conduct by Gauchos fans that ought to be curtailed, as well, leading up to the rivalry rematch Nov. 5 in Isla Vista.
He might not like what a UCSB fan wrote in a letter to the editor of the Daily Nexus, the Gauchos’ student newspaper.
Andrew Schmedake told UCSB fans to “go crazy in the Loco section and throw tortillas when (the Gauchos) score.”
What do you think? What crosses the line?
