Cal Poly was ranked 121st in the Jeff Sagarin NCAA football preseason ratings released Friday.
The Sagarin ratings rank all Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) and Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) teams top-to-bottom.
USC topped the list, with Appalachian State being the No. 1 FCS representative, at No. 70.
The Mustangs, the 17th-ranked FCS member, are slotted above 16 FBS counterparts.
They are, in descending order: Western Kentucky, Rice, Arkansas State, Army, SMU, Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette, Kent State, New Mexico State, Eastern Michigan, Utah State, Buffalo, Temple, North Texas, Idaho and Florida International.
Florida International brought up the FBS rear at No. 176 out of the 245 total teams.
Cal Poly’s two FBS opponents this year, San Diego State and Wisconsin, were ranked 88th and 20th, respectively.
