Several Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) preseason rankings have placed Cal Poly in the top 15, but arguably the most important top-25 did the same Thursday, when the Mustangs found themselves slotted No. 14 in the FCS coaches poll.
Cal Poly received 275 points.
Naturally, three-time defending national champion Appalachian State earned top honors, unanimously.
Ranked teams on Cal Poly’s schedule are Montana (No. 7), McNeese State (No. 10) and South Dakota State (No. 20).
In the “others receiving votes” category were Great West Conference foes North Dakota (with five votes) and UC Davis (three).
