South Dakota and North Dakota, both in transition from Division II and Great West Football Conference rookies this season, have thrown their hats in the ring for the idea of an all-sports division within the larger umbrella of the Great West, the Argus Leader of Sioux Falls, S.D. reported Monday.
The remaining members of the GWFC — Cal Poly, UC Davis and Southern Utah — have thus far adamantly emphasized their desires to be affiliated with the Great West only in football, and to play the rest of their sports in already-comfortable respective conferences.
According to the report, additional independents interested in the all-sports division are Seattle and Houston Baptist — neither of which plays football.
Previously reported schools (see a few entries below) showing interest were Texas-Pan American, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Chicago State, Utah Valley State and Longwood (of Farmville, Va.).
