The Cal Poly women’s basketball team won two games in the Holiday Beach Classic tournament and are now 4-4.

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team won both games in the Holiday Beach Classic tournament held this past weekend. Cal Poly beat Akron 84-74 on Friday and then defeated San Francisco 76-65 on Saturday to improve to 4-4 on the season.
In the victory against Akron, Cal Poly outrebounded the Zips 53-35 in a balanced team performance. Four players scored in double digits and two had 10 or more rebounds.
Senior center Molly Schlemer led the Mustangs with 23 points and recorded her fourth double-double of the season. Junior Ariana Elegado tallied 16 points with three shots converted from behind the arc. Senior guard Jonae Ervin put up 14 points and 10 rebounds while junior Taryn Garza came off the bench to score 13.
On Saturday, Cal Poly took down San Francisco with the help of 32 points from the bench.
Junior Kristen Ale led the reserves in scoring with 12 points while sophomore Beth Balbierz tallied 11 points and Hannah Gilbert had seven points.
Schlemer made nine of 12 from the floor to score a total of 21 points with 10 rebounds. Elegado added 15 points and Ervin scored eight.
The Mustangs are now 4-4 and will face CSU Bakersfield on Dec. 7. Cal Poly has five games left until beginning conference play.
