The Cal Poly football team announced Wednesday the signing of the 20th member of this year’s recruiting class — Kenny Jackson, a running back and linebacker of San Jose’s Archbishop Mitty High who signed a national letter of intent.
According to Scout.com, Jackson drew interest from UNLV, Cal and LSU, among others.
Jackson, a 6-foot, 242-pounder — ranked as the No. 4 fullback prospect in the state and No. 30 in the nation by ESPN Insider — was a teammate of fellow Mustangs signing Thomas Reynolds. Together, they rushed for more than 1,800 yards in 2007, when Archbishop Mitty went 7-4.
Jackson himself compiled 729 yards and seven touchdowns last fall for the Monarchs.
The only other member of the Mustangs’ class along Jackson’s lines would figure to be Reece Ludwig, a 6-1, 220-pound hybrid of the same nature, from Laguna Hills.
It seems likely Jackson will redshirt — as Cal Poly head coach Rich Ellerson intends for virtually all of the program’s additions — especially given the Mustangs’ stacked backfield already including ball carriers James Noble and Ryan Mole and fullback Jon Hall.
There would seem to be more room at linebacker, though.
