It was somewhat mysterious when 5-foot-6 Cal State Fullerton point guard Junior Russell didn’t start at Mott Gym on Saturday.

According to the Orange County Register, it was because he’s been arrested and charged with marijuana possession for sale.
Russell, a junior (naturally), started 18 of 20 games he played in this season for CSF. His 53.1 3-point percentage was best on the team, as was his 1.7 steals-per-game average, third in the Big West Conference. He was also in the top 10 in the conference in assists per game, and his six points per game were fifth on the team.
Stay tuned to see how this affects the Titans’ chances. According to Cal Poly head coach Kevin Bromley, the Titans came out uninspired and lethargic during their 80-67 win. Bromley said that even CSF head coach Bob Burton expressed to him frustration with his team’s apparent lack of gusto.
Perhaps Russell’s absence is the source.
