As far as local police departments are concerned, it was a pretty mellow Halloween. In an effort to curb partying, fines for noise violations, public intoxication and minor in possession were doubled this past weekend.
After making one arrest for unspecified alcohol violations Thursday and Friday, University Police Department (UPD) arrested three people for public intoxication early Saturday morning. UPD also investigated five narcotics-related violations over the weekend.
The San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD) was more active, though not all arrests involved students. SLOPD confiscated a fake ID and cited the person for minor in possession near Higuera and Nipomo streets on Halloween night.
Cal Poly fraternity Sigma Nu’s haunted house philanthropy event received a noise complaint on Halloween, but police did not give the chapter a ticket.
Students sometimes flee Cal Poly in favor of UC Santa Barbara’s Halloween festivities, but the administration in Isla Vista made moves to keep outsiders away, including purchasing an advertisement in Mustang News.
