The Cal Poly volleyball team fell to Big West-leading UC Santa Barbara 3-0 in a Blue-Green Rivalry match Saturday night.
Coming off a two-game win streak, the Mustangs lost the straight sets 25-20, 25-10 and 26-24.
During the first set, Cal Poly closely followed UC Santa Barbara, gaining the lead early in the set. However, the Gauchos went on a 5-0 streak that propelled them to a victory in the first set.
In the second set, communication and errors were an issue for Cal Poly. Only hitting at a .052 percent clip, the Mustangs struggled to get the ball over the net and the Gauchos quickly jumped ahead a 10-3 lead that pushed them to a swift second win.
The final set was similar to the first — Cal Poly stayed close to the Gauchos up to the end — until UC Santa Barbara secured the final two points after long rallies.
With the loss, Cal Poly dropped to 10-12 overall and 4-5 in the Big West. The Mustangs now sit in sixth place in the conference.
In its next two games Cal Poly will play Hawaii and Cal State Northridge.
