The University Police Department (UPD) announced Thursday it will “pursue appropriate criminal charges and campus sanctions,” against 13 identified people suspected of burglarizing VG Cafe earlier this month after a door was left unlocked in Campus Dining facility.
The investigation is ongoing and UPD is working with Campus Dining to identify the remaining 68 people who allegedly entered VG Cafe at approximately 1:30 in the morning on Oct. 6. The surveillance camera reveals several of the people who police said entered stole food and ransacked the cafe. The estimated cost in damages and stolen food is $1,400, the press release said.
UPD will forward the criminal charges to the San Luis Obispo’s District Attorney’s office, as well as notify campus judicial affairs.
Police learned of the incident when someone called and alerted them to the break in, Hughes said.
“UPD and Campus Dining offer our thanks to the anonymous caller who embraced the true spirit of ‘The Mustang Way’ and chose to contact the police,” University Police Chief George Hughes said in the press release.
