Cal Poly fans celebrated the men’s soccer triumph over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos last year.
For those looking for something other than a party or pregame before Friday’s soccer game against Santa Barbara, the Inter Housing Council (IHC) is hosting a “dry” three-phase event with free food, music and frozen yogurt discounts.
If those offers aren’t enticing enough, President Armstrong will be in a giant inflatable hamster ball.
“We’re calling it the IHC Triple Threat,” said Andrew Schwandt, IHC vice president of finance and outreach and business administration student.
Phase one of the Triple Threat is geared towards on-campus students, and will take place at 3 p.m. in the dorms and Poly Canyon Village. There will be free barbecues and face painting and attendees will be encouraged to go to the soccer match.
Phase two is the match itself, which will take place at 7 p.m. in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
“I’m really excited because it’s the biggest event we’ve ever done,” Schwandt said. “We ordered security for the first time ever. The UPD will be at the game, and then so will the outside security that we hired. We’re paying the UPD double or triple overtime just for this event.”
Phase three, called “Inflate-a-Fest,” is open to all students and will take place in the Recreation Center after the game. IHC partnered with Associated Students, Inc. and Friday Night Live to organize the event. There will be music, free cotton candy and popcorn, a photo booth, giant inflatable hamster balls and “those little Q-tip boxing things,” Schwandt said.
Everyone who comes will also receive a 15 percent discount for Yogurt Creations. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the event will end at midnight.
