For the last week, Cal Poly students have again had to suffer thanks to the complete failure of CalPoly ITS to provide a reliable e-mail system. After a hugely expensive and wildly delayed e-mail “upgrade,” we’re right back where we started. An unreliable, slow system that often goes down for entire days. This is unacceptable. We paid for this system with our tuition and taxes and we pay the salaries of the people running it. We need to stop letting these people think they can get away with it. Tell CIO Tim Kearns (tkearns@calpoly.edu) that you’re upset. Tell ITS Application Management Director Dave Ross (ddross@calpoly.edu) that you’re not going to take it. You can even find their phone numbers in the Cal Poly directory. They are accountable to us and they need to be reminded of that. Unless we get angry at these people and let them know that there are 20,000 people relying on them to do their jobs, they will continue to think that they can let this sort of shoddy work slide. I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!
