Sophomore David Nwaba scored 12 points while sophomore Zach Gordon tallied 11 as the Green team defeated the Gold team 43-25 in a men’s basketball intrasquad exhibition game on Saturday.
Junior guard Maliik Love paced the Gold squad with 10 points, which led only once in the 20-minute scrimmage after Love hit the game’s opening basket. The Green team went on a 9-2 run from there and would hold on for the eventual win.
Senior guard Kyle Odister hit two 3-pointers as he scored eight points for the Green team and senior guard Jamal Johnson registered a game-high five rebounds and four assists on the day.
Nwaba would go on to win the dunk contest following the intrasquad tuneup.
The Mustangs open the 2013-14 season with a Nov. 8 trip to Arizona to take on a Wildcats team that reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament this past year. Cal Poly will then come home to face Nevada on Nov. 12 for the season-opener inside Mott Athletics Center.
