Jessica Dean and Robin RodriguezHere comes another holiday you have probably never heard of. National Condom Awareness Week is coming up. This dedicated week was approved by Congress way back in 1992 and is celebrated at Cal Poly every year as "Love Carefully Week," and students are preparing to act. Not "act" in the sense you may be thinking, they are preparing to make you aware of condoms, in the hope that you'll use one. The Peer Health Education team EROS (Educational Resources on Sexuality) is preparing for Love Carefully Week, which will begin on Monday, Feb. 13.
This year's Love Carefully theme is "Show True Love, Wear A Glove." The team has planned a series of events to involve and educate students about condoms and sexuality. EROS team members will be in informational booths in the University Union Plaza on Feb. 9 and on the Dexter Lawn on Feb. 14 with date ideas, gift ideas and free giveaways. On Feb. 16, an EROS team member will be hosting an open discussion group called "Let's Talk About Sex," and all students are welcome to join.
EROS team members will be handing out information to empower students that choose abstinence, such as "top ten" lists that feature the "Top Ten Ways to Show Love Without Making It" and the "Top Ten Places to Take Your Valentine," as well as condoms and condom roses for those that choose not to abstain. So stop by the booths around campus or come to the Peer Health Education office in the lower level of the health center, and get information on safe sex, contraception, abstinence and other topics from Peer Health Educators.
