The classrooms of Warren J. Baker Center for Science and Mathematics were filled with students and professors for the first time Monday morning.
If every classroom and laboratory was filled to full capacity at any one time, the building would hold approximately 1,300 students, College of Science and Mathematics Dean Phil Bailey said. The building was designed for students of all majors and also includes lecture halls and furniture for more than 400 students. The goal is not only for every student to have a class in this building, but to use the building as another place to study during breaks.
“There’s a vision and a symbolism that goes with the building,” Bailey said. “Science and math is the foundation of polytechnic curriculum, so it’s central to the curriculum, and the Center for Science and Mathematics is at the center of the campus.”
