San Luis Obispo police arrested a 21-year-old man less than a mile from Cal Poly’s campus this weekend on suspicion of committing a felony hit and run while under the influence of alcohol.
Police say they received a call shortly before midnight Friday night reporting a collision between a moving vehicle and two parked cars in the 100 block of North Tassajara Drive. They found an abandoned Cadillac SUV nearby with fresh blood around it, according to a press release, and searched for occupants nearby.
The responding officer located the driver and passenger who allegedly ran from the car after the collision.
Police arrested Nicolas Martinez, whose Facebook profile page lists him as a business administration senior at Cal Poly, in connection with felony DUI causing injuries and felony hit and run. He was booked in San Luis Obispo County Jail on $100,000 bail.
Cal Poly spokesperson Matt Lazier declined to confirm if Martinez is a student at Cal Poly.
The vehicle’s passenger was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and was later released.
