Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Board of Directors met April 18 for its biweekly meeting in the University Union (UU), room 220. Topics discussed included:
Kiyana Tabrizi, ASI president reported:
- Welcomed new provost Kathleen Enz Finken, who introduced herself and answered questions regarding her campus goals, including diversity, advising and the Teacher’s Scholar Model.
- “I’m always very supportive of students … but my greatest role, I believe, is to be doing the work that’s going to guide the university and move it forward in all the other areas,” she said. “Leading the colleges, leading the support areas of the campus, the registrar’s office, the library, IT, there are so many things that I oversee that really need a lot of attention and a lot of work. My greatest success is paying attention to them so that they can benefit you.”
- The Student Success Fee Advisory Committee will have its first meeting next Thursday and is planned to have three more meetings this quarter.
Karen Mesrobian, chair of University Union Advisory Board reported:
- Poly Escapes is now renting paddleboards.
- The Recreation Center’s leisure pool will now be open until 7:30 p.m.
- Registration for Recreation Center rental spaces will open May 1.
- Furniture will be in the UU by the second week of May for testing.
Preston Allen, interim vice president of Student Affairs reported:
- Orientation programs are being revamped this year. “There will be a lot of downtown interactions and getting parents comfortable with leaving their students with us in the fall,” he said.
Jim LoCascio, Academic Senate representative reported:
- California Faculty Association will soon vote on a possible strike.
- “No one that works here is broke, but no one came here to march in place,” he said.
Ryan Crist, on behalf of the ASI Outreach and Communication Committee reported:
- “We are in communication with Cal Poly Corporation and Cal Poly (Information Technology Services) to really get the ASI app up and going,” he said.
Brianna Mulligan, on behalf of ASI Recruitment Development Committee reported:
- There is a second presidential candidate running as a write-in.
- Presidential debate is today during UU Hour; both presidential candidates will be present at the debate.
- ASI Election winners will be announced during UU Hour on April 26.
- The committee has set a goal of 40 percent voter turnout for elections, she said.
