An electrical engineering sophomore was found unresponsive by his roommates around 7 a.m. Thursday and has since passed away.
Mora, 19, lived in the Poly Canyon Village student housing apartment complex and was from San Jose, Calif. He attended Andrew P. Hill High School and graduated in 2007.
There is an investigation into the death, but so far, there doesn’t appear to be any wrongdoing, University Police Department Chief Bill Watton said.
“I hesitate to use the term ‘natural causes,’ because there is nothing natural about a 19-year-old dying,” but it appears that no drugs, alcohol or foul play were involved, he said.
The autopsy was conducted Thursday afternoon, but the official cause of death will have to wait for test results and a toxicology screen to come back, said Rob Bryn, San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department public information officer.
Cal Poly Counseling Services is offering outreach counseling to Poly Canyon Village residents tonight and anyone else who needs it, health and counseling services director Martin Bragg said.
“It’s such a young, healthy population by general rule . it’s so shocking,” he said.
The university and community is still recovering from the death of architectural engineering freshman Carson Starkey, who was found dead after a fraternity party Tuesday morning. His autopsy was also conduced Thursday, but results are waiting upon more testing and toxicology screen results.
