The Cal Poly women’s soccer team was defeated in a shootout by UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Conference Tournament semifinals Thursday night.
Genelle Ives scored first for the second-seeded, host Gauchos, who had 11 shots on goal.
Cal Poly junior defender Carrie Andrews tied the game in the second half.
After two scoreless overtime sessions, the teams went to a shootout, which the Gauchos won 5-4.
The teams each made their first four penalty shots before senior forward Ashley Vallis’ miss.
Sarah Stoltz put the match away for UCSB as she scored the last penalty kick to end Cal Poly’s season.
Cal Poly finished its season with a 10-10 overall record and a third-place finish in the Big West regular season.
