Men’s basketball
The Mustangs will compete in their final two regular season games this weekend in Mott Gym as UC Davis and Pacific visit the Central Coast.
After suffering an eight-point loss to UC Santa Barbara last Saturday, Cal Poly fell into a three-way tie for fourth place in the Big West. The final standings will determine the seeding for the Big West Tournament next Thursday through Saturday.
Junior guard Drake U’u is still sidelined with a broken hand, which he suffered against UC Irvine on Feb. 11.
Amaurys Fermin, Cal Poly’s point guard, has been well-contained by defenses during conference play. He has only tailled one double-digit point total in the Mustangs last eight games.
The Aggies arrive for a Thursday night matchup while Cal Poly concludes the season against Pacific on Saturday. Both games tip at 7 p.m.
Women’s basketball
They don’t like to share.
Cal Poly women’s basketball team needs one win in its final two games to clinch the Big West regular-season crown outright. Cal Poly split the honor with UC Santa Barbara in 2011 and fell in the finals of the Big West Tournament to UC Davis.
The Mustangs are on the road this week, visiting UC Davis and Pacific, looking to continue their nine-game winning streak.
Kristina Santiago, the Big West’s leading scoring, suffered a concussion while being knocked around against Cal State Northridge and is doubtful for the matchup with the Aggies on Thursday. She needs four more points to become Cal Poly’s all-time leading scorer.
Baseball
An ESPN report said the Mustangs were the country’s best-kept secret while giving the team a No. 12 ranking this week. The team swept Oklahoma State to start the season and won four games against Loyola Marymount last weekend and own a 7-1 record.
Cal Poly will play University of San Diego and San Diego State in addition to two other programs in the Aztec Invitational this weekend.
