Ben RozakThe Cal Poly track and field team swept visiting UC Santa Barbara in a dual on Saturday afternoon, with the men’s squad winning 121-79 and the women’s 121-78.
For the men, Tre’dale Tolver ran the second leg of a 4-by- 100-meter relay unit’s victorious 41.94-second mark before individually claiming the 100 in a regionally qualifying 10.52 and the 200 in a personal-best 21.59.
Also winning two events on behalf of the Mustangs were Joe Gatel, who took the 1,500 in 3:47.7 and the 800 in 1:56.32, Joey Hauser, who won the long jump at 23 feet, 2 « inches and the triple jump at 49-2 _ and Kevin Jones, who won the 110 in 14.69 and the pole vault at 16-_.
Leading the Mustangs women, who won 15 of 19 events, was Julieann Dufresne, who claimed the discus at 159-4 _ and the shot put at 47-7 ¬.
Sharon Day came up short of her coveted Olympic “A” standard but won the high jump with a clearance of 6-_. She earned runner-up distinction in the long jump by bounding 19-3 «, an inch behind teammate Jasmine Pickett.
Other individually victorious Mustangs on the track were Brienna Morris in the 3,000 steeplechase (in 11:12.12), Natalie Roy in the 100 hurdles (14.69), Erinne Benny in the 100 (11.98), Stephanie Williams in the 800 (2:15.39), Jhana Samuels in the 400 hurdles (1:02.22), Ogonna Agu in the 200 (25.20) and Lauren Mulkey in the 3,000 (10:17.01).
Winning field events for Cal Poly were Jenna Homes in the pole vault (at 12-1 «), Katie Robbins in the javelin (128-8 _) and Jessica Eggleston in the triple jump (41-6).
Other Mustangs men winning were Joe Cozby in the 400 (in 48.96), Chris Frazeur in the 400 hurdles (53.45), Corbin Duer in the high jump (at 6-4 _) and Carlton Gillespie in the discus (164-1 ¬).
Cal Poly will travel to Cal State Northridge for the Big West Conference Championships, for which multi-event competition starts Friday, before the majority of events are held May 16-17.
